Look what I found!

I was organizing my photos the other day and I came across some photos that I completely forgot about. I shot and edited these almost a year ago and they somehow got lost in the ruckus of life. Ok. Enough … Continue reading

DESTROPHY

Last month I had the great fortune of photographing the band DESTROPHY. These guys were so cool to hang out with and their style made for great photos. This was my first shoot with a metal band and I have to say I think I found my new niche.

We shot at Starlighters II theatre in Anamosa, IA. It was a perfect location for the kind of photo the band was looking for.

Many of you know that I love HDR. HDR is great for landscapes but I didn’t know if it would work for people. HDR has been used in portrait backgrounds but I haven’t seen many photos that are full HDR with the focus on people. I applied my HDR technique to some of the photos. Here is one of them…

"Destrophy"I’m pretty pleased with the way it turned out.  What do you think?

Destrophy’s new album Cry Havoc is releasing April 26th. You can pre order the CD here. https://www.victoryrecords.com/merch/cds/18310/Destrophy_Cry_Havoc

New York in HDR

In October of 2010 I traveled to NYC for the first time. From the moment I stepped off the plane I couldn’t seem to put my camera down. In the 7 days I was there I took over 2000 photos. But it doesn’t stop there. In March 2011 I am having an exhibit to show all of these photos. Well, okay, not ALL of them. I’m hoping it to be my biggest exhibit yet. Here are a few photos that will be shown.

If you’re interested in purchasing any work from the show please check out this link.

It gives you a chance to help fund the exhibit and receive work from the show in return. Think of it as pre-ordering work from the show.

Please pass this blog on to your friends, family, colleagues, etc. Every little bit helps!

Frozen Fog

This morning I woke up to find (as did most Cedar Rapids citizens) all of the trees covered in frost. So after I got my morning coffee at Brewed Awakenings I went out to capture the beauty of the morning. These are the results.

Train Derailment in SE Cedar Rapids

This morning I was alerted by my friend Rob that a train had derailed outside of his apartment complex. As soon as I heard I jumped in the car and headed down to take some photos. Here is the result.

Still Water

I’ve never really had the chance to take a photo of a perfectly still body of water that acted like a mirror. So I was pretty excited when I came across this puddle. Directly behind me is a factory that has been demolished due to flood damage. I photographed it back when the damage was fresh and was a little disappointed when I returned to see it all gone because it was a really sweet photo spot. It was extremely dangerous though, so it’s probably a good thing they demolished it.

Thanksgiving Eve

I took this photo on my way to meet up with some friends that I hadn’t seen in a long time. I was already late but as I was crossing the 1st avenue bridge and saw what you are now seeing I just couldn’t let it pass. Thank God I had all my equipment with me. This is a 3 exposure HDR image. ISO 400, f/9.0, and 10, 20 and 30 second exposures. My favorite part about this photo is in the right of the image where there are hundreds of crows hanging out.
